PLUS ULTRA Fanart!

My Hero Academia is one of the few films I truly love. Here's the thing: I hardly watch anything: Movies, Tv, anime. Nothin'. But I was introduced to MHA and ran with it. 

The show inspires laughter as well as art and deep thought.

My favorite characters are Katsuki Bakagou and Izuku Midoriya, former best friends turned enimies, and then RIVALS. Their battles are masterpieces and their relationship a mess.

I love drawing the two as kids with all the sweetness and fluff, and then their hotter older selves. ;) #Ishipit

Below is a little doodle inspired by a fanfiction I read by Glamour Weeb. She has a great story revolving around these two, with Katsuki as Izuku's wolfdog Companion. Excited for future chapters!

I don't ship Izuocha, but it's definitely a cute ship! (sorry the anime tore it apart my bros)
I have such admiration for Horikoshi, the mangaka. A huge PLUS ULTRA for him and his work!

How to Draw Chibi Kids

My evolved style of drawing children has the base of a chibi, a sauce made from my observations, and a sprinkle of mentors, like Patrice Barton, a best-selling children's books illustrator.
After reading her book 'The Invisible Boy', I was inspired by the motion and emotion in her children- but I wanted my kids to be more duplicatable and definite in line.

There are some KEY differences between these kiddos and actual chibis to really define them as kindergartners instead of tiny 25 year-olds!

How to draw chibi Kids chart: (aka my observations)

Kids do not have boobs. Or thighs. Or bumpy muscles. They are smooth, soft round beans. I picture a milk jug for the torso, you could see a sack of flour. I see a tire, and you could see... a tire. *shrug*.

Eyes are spaced out further because of their fat big heads, which are also longer than your normal chibi. The neck is a funnel. (how can they hold up their heads? Idk)
Refrain from sharp angles, kids should still have a healthy amount of baby fat to round out their shoulders and elbows. Only a slight curve indicates the child's calf.

Coloring with Clip Studio Paint - CSP

This is a Chibi speed paint I did of a cute sleepy chibi on my youtube channel. I used a pre-created color palette (left of the chibi) along with yellows to warm the over-all colors.

To keep your digital characters from looking bland, refrain from using grays and gray color mixes for shadows, particularly contouring of the skin. INSTEAD of darker colors, use deeper colors, as shown below:

If your skin tone is light peach, us a deeper orange or red to compliment it; just using a darker peach will make the image appear grey.
The same goes for brown skin, tan-tones, green, pink, what have you.
Looking back, I Would use a darker orange for the chibi girl's shadowing, but the warm tones (admittedly a little too light) colors convey the cozy feeling I wanted.

Manga (mostly chibi) art (spring 2018)

Many of these are chibi caricatures of my fellow actors from my town's rendetion of 'Shrek: The Musical'. I was commissioned to do the one of the dragon!

Izuku (top) and the last one with Todoroki, Izuku, and Bakagou, are all characters from My Hero Academia (bnha). I just watched the anime last week, and it's AMAZING. 10/10 recommend. I wish there was a little less cussing tho. :/ Say hello to my favorite, Shouto Todoroki, is you watch it!

Steps to Drawing a Chibi face

Say hello to this little bean! Or leaf. This is my OC Prince "Leafy" (Lafayette).
We begin with a circle. The vertical line should bisect the circle; vut an indent into the circle where the line touches.

when in 3/4 view as we are now, the neck is located beneath the larger quarter.

Align the eyes on either side of the vertical line, make sure they are the same size; just because the one on the left is further doesn't make it smaller. The ear is just underneath the horizontal line.

Create the hair coming from a hairline, not from the forehead or eyebrows. Creating an actual hairline first will keep you from drawing the hair to close to the face.

Add defining details. For Prince Leafy, his forehead leaf, green freckles and leaf vein on his cheekbone define him, so that even though it's a Chibi, you Know it's Leafy.
