This is a Chibi speed paint I did of a cute sleepy chibi on my youtube channel. I used a pre-created color palette (left of the chibi) along with yellows to warm the over-all colors.
To keep your digital characters from looking bland, refrain from using grays and gray color mixes for shadows, particularly contouring of the skin. INSTEAD of darker colors, use deeper colors, as shown below:
Darker, Left; Deeper, RightIf your skin tone is light peach, us a deeper orange or red to compliment it; just using a darker peach will make the image appear grey.
The same goes for brown skin, tan-tones, green, pink, what have you.
Looking back, I Would use a darker orange for the chibi girl's shadowing, but the warm tones (admittedly a little too light) colors convey the cozy feeling I wanted.
