Manga Character Design

Here I began a rough draft of a manga version of the zodiac Aquarius, wanting him to look somewhat like an intense Greek philosopher as he sits by a fountain.
This is a value sketch- I'm going to be finishing this piece on the computer.
Instead of his water jar, I gave him a trident( Chill out Poseidon, you're still the lord of the sea) to symbolize his connection with water and war.

This is an older character that I sketched out for the first time a few days ago. Her name is Rondo and she was inspired by one of my dreams. O_o
I tried a different approach. I drew her with more feminine features and big, glazed eyes- more anime than manga- but I was still able to pull off that apathetic and slightly sad feeling.
A collage of different poses for my manga character Ronda so I could get a feel for her personality: Intense, passionate and a little cynical.

Manga Art

I am taking part in an online digital art competition featuring 'Art inspired by school' and that could mean thousands of things, but I really liked this girl I drew from earlier, so I placed her in a classroom and am going to finish it in Painter 2017.
Haha, I felt like it was time for a new chibi me! I am binge drawing high ponytails right now, idk why, it's just a sort of obsession right now.
See! Another high pony tail Manga girl! This one is an old character of mine I redrew to compare to one of my first manga drawings of her almost a year ago.

Comic Panel Terms

This is a page from the comic in Manga Graphic Novel Comics.
Left-to-right, Panel 1 is a 1/3, Panel 2 is 2/3, Panels 3 and 4 are 1/2 panels and Panel 5 is a whole.
Note that the diagonal cut of 3 and 4 doesn't change the term.

Here are the Comic Panel Terms demonstrated:

Manga Graphic Novel Comics

Graphic Novel or Comic? Not all Comics are funny, not all Graphic novels are serious. I will use the term graphic novel to refer to an entire project( like a manga) and comic for a one page or several page long comic.

These two pages come from a short comic I just finished. Both used the same panel format, but as I continue through the comic I switched it up a little with different panel sizes and placement.
I'm not new to making comics with my chibis, but I wanted to be able to express my stories with a little more clarity and raise my output rate, so I started taking a comics course this year.

These are from my class portfolio. In the first I was supposed to draw one chibi running and another staggering. A speeding car( It sucks, I know), a falling ball and a newspaper in the wind.
The second is a representation of three one-panel scenes:
1) person 1 shoots gun, bullet breaks chandelier chain, chandelier falls on person 2
2) Ball crashes through window, and through newspaper, person 1 reacts
3) person 1 trips person 2 and laughs while person 2 stumbles and pushes over a lamp.
This one my mom said looked like someone on the toilet. I don't blame her.

I learned from other students and my mom that people don't see things the same way. We, as artists, can see one thing, and the readers can see something totally different; like a toilet.

Everything Is Chibi

I have weeks of nothing but chibis, but here are my favorites that I drew in my last chibi splurge.
