Q&A Tag: about me

I was tagged by Chloe on her  blog, Faeries and Folklore, to answer 11 questions about myself; sadly, I won't be passing it along because the bloggers I know prolly wouldn't do this... :P

1. If your life was a book genre, what would it be and why?
Well, it is and it's non-fiction. xD Jk!
I would probably enjoy a bit of magic, so Fantasy, but with modern items like air conditioning. I can camp for weeks at a time and I've done 'character building' assignments like the BSA's lone wolf where you have to survive by yourself in the wilderness for three days- but if I'm being honest, I'd much rather have all my luxuries.

2. Who is your biggest fictional hero?
Hmm... I have quite a few, because they're all great in different ways, and no one of them is an absolute model of who I want to be. Harry Potter and Hermione were definitely my #1s for a long time, because I grew up with those books. Elizabeth and Mr. Bennet from Pride and prejudice are probably the closest characters (besides Beatrice from much ado about nothing) I relate to. I KNOW if I thought about it longer I could come up with more. :/
I GOT IT. Faramir. Definitely the 'book' faramir from LOTRs. (I'm certain I spelt his name wrong)
3. If you could be famous for only one reason, what would it be?
May I pick several? I'd probably get a kick out of being famous for any of these:
1) My art, 2) being a superstar, 3) Hacking skillz 4) Being a super villain

4. What's your favorite dream you have ever had?
Frankly my dreams aren't great, so... Idk. I try to avoid them nowadays, but a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I dreamt of getting on the Hogwarts train- Hagrid gave me a pet dolphin.

5. What Bible verse is speaking to you right now?
I've always loved Isiah 53:3-6

6. What is your favorite drawing style?
Obviously manga. :P

7. What is your favorite childhood memory?
8. What's your favorite TV show?
I have two:
1) The last air-bender
2) BBC's Sherlock

9. What's your favorite book of all time?
I'm not sure. There are fiction works I love, and then there are the scriptures, and the writings of Socrates,or really enthralling history books. So it's really hard to choose. I really love Harry Potter, I know that.

10. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Telepathy and the interception of others' thoughts at will. Or invisibility, I'd go for that too.

11. If you found a magical portal and you could choose where you'd want to go, where would you go?
Since this is magical that means I can go fictional places too? Well then, my own stories. xD
Here on Earth? England.

That was a wordy post; here are some chibis. What are your answers to the questions?

Chibi Avatar Aang! If you haven't watched the last airbender, it's REALLY good. And you should. You can even come over to my house and watch it with me in my blanket fort if you bring snacks. ;)

The nympth on the left was drawn a year ago, and the one on the right was a redraw a couple of days ago.
Head up: The last Sketch dump post was revised and updated with two pics.

Why you SHOULDN'T buy Copics

Many professionals use copic markers, and they’re hailed everywhere as the best and brightest; Then there are a few who say that they’re not worth the price. I don’t know either way because I’ve never bought any. They are (supposedly) the ones that blend best, due to their ‘wateriness.’ BUT if you haven’t used alcoholic markers before I suggest getting a small set of necessary colors and starting with cheaper markers. Copics are regularly sold for 7$ per marker.
When I got my first marker set (right now I have 75 Tombows, 20ish prisma and 24 Blicks), I was 13. After reading several how-to marker books I expected perfection, and when they didn’t magically blend and overlay, I gave up and thought that they weren’t working. A year later, I realized my foolishness, started over, and took the time to learn how to use them properly.

Copic markers would be like others in their league- Prisma, Blick, Neopiko- taking the same time to master. Whichever marker you end up choosing, I think it’s best to go cheaper and really get a feel for how markers work, before putting in too much investment into it.

When you take the time to learn any marker, you can do the same things with all of them, so buying expensive ones just because everyone else does is a really poor excuse to yourself and your wallet. You should focus on real difference, like the nibs and the width of the marker (which will make a difference in how it feels to hold).
These things change from person to person. You might like flat, stiff nibs and fat markers, or you might not touch anything that doesn't have a brush nib.

My personal favorite is the Blick Studio Brush Marker, Blick has cheaper markers, and other brands even. like Prismacolor, but all-in-all the Brush Marker is the best one I've ever used. The stiff end makes coloring details a cinch, the brush end allows me to fill in large spaces, and they blend well with every other marker I own, even the non-alcoholic ones. (don't know why- I should look into that)

If you're a beginner with markers, I'd suggest getting a basic color set (6 or 12) of Blick's generic markers, along with the warm (Or cool) gray set. It's cheapest to but markers in bulk, whether in the sets or single, so when you have a collection of other colors in your wishlist, you might want to add a couple skin colors- but remember when selecting ANY marker- you can always go darker, but you can't lighten the color once you put it on the page! So try to get more light shades than dark ones. ;)

Sketch dump

Haven't had a lot of time for posting; my weekend got clogged up with Prom, not to mention sewing both my sister's and my own Prom dresses. :P I should really run a blog of excuses for people who need to get out of commitments. XD

These first two are really rough character sketches. When I first imagine a character, I might fill out several pages with them in different poses or with different expressions to get a feel for their character.
The one above was colored with several tombow markers (non-alcoholic). Tombows are great because there is a huge variety in color and you can get big sets cheaper than other marker sets- It's just I need to be more patient when coloring, otherwise they overlap and look choppy.

And these two above are re-visions of my character Jairshon who pops in and out of this blog all the time.
I don't know what my brain pooped out at 11 that last night, but I like it. :PI was trying to create different line width with a single stroke from my G pen; I still have a lot of learning to do and practice.

Doodling around with my black and red pens. :)
